No. Do you need to be unique to make money online for a long time? Maybe.
It’s quite possible to instantly get the sale if you can get to your targets who will buy now, maybe through a JV venture or so, hence whether a product is unique or not, if you get to your targets who have the money to buy and want to buy now and who think your product/service have the value they want, they may buy from/through you at that point in time, this is just one scenario, there could be several others like this too, so it is quite possible to make money with a non-unique product/service, the problem will be when you want to sell long term.
You should understand how people buys, they see a product online they go and perform a search on the search engines to see if they can get it cheaper elsewhere, you can’t stop that, or they see a product they like but then remember that a friend has told them they could get the product cheaper elsewhere, nobody wants to buy anything at a higher price when he/she can get exactly the same thing at a cheaper price somewhere, so people shop around for whatever they want to buy, maybe not everybody does but a greater percentage of the people will and do, this is normal.
Now you’ve got a product/service you’ll like to sell but your product/service is exactly the same as what anyone can get next door (or at the next site), hence your targets don’t have a reason to buy only from you, they can get the product anywhere they want.
If you don’t have competitors in your niche whether your product is unique or not will not be an issue, but if you do have competitors, it will be an issue since you’ll want enough number of targets to buy from/through you. To make your products/services or business unique you need to know what your competitors are doing and how they are doing it, you’ll then need to offer something more to differentiate your products/services and/or business from your competitors’.

You may also use some unique services, software, customer support etc depending on what is going on in your niche at every point in time.
